Drawing From Observation

Learning to look at the visual world and represent it on paper is the biggest hurdle a new artist faces. It's discouraging to make a drawing that looks nothing like what we pictured in our heads; it makes us think, "people who are able to draw must be born with the talent," or "if I can't even draw this simple image, what's the use?" Traditional art classes might give us graphite and charcoal and insist that the way to build skill is to fill pages with photorealistic, perfectly-blended spheres, cylinders, cones, etc. When we find the practice too frustrating, rigid, or boring, we might assume that drawing just isn't for us. We resign to a life of "I can only draw stick figures" when all we need is a different approach.

The honest truth is that-- with the use of simple tools-- basic drawing skills are easy to

learn and fun to practice!

Leave your fancy set of pencils at home and learn how to draw from the ground-up. This course will give you the tools and support you need to sharpen your eye, connect your brain to your pen, and have fun on the page. Complete beginners and confident intermediate artists alike are welcome! Come and learn new approaches to artistic process

and creative thinking.
